Located in the Savoie region in the French Alps, Courchevel ski resort is part of the stunning Les Trois Vallees, aka the Three Valleys, the largest linked ski area in the World. The resort of Courchevel is not made up of one town, but a collection of villages built at different levels. Courchevel ski resort has 5 separate ski resort areas, most named for their altitudes in meters. They are La Tania, Courchevel Le Praz aka Courchevel 1300, Courchevel village aka Courchevel 1550, Courchevel Moriond, aka Courchevel 1650, and Courchevel, aka Courchevel 1850 (although it’s actually 1750m – it’s done so to compete with nearby Val d’isere). The resort centre of Courchevel is at 1,747 meters.
If you are entering Courchevel with a Vehicle (Car/Van/Coach), The first village you will encounter is Courchevel Le Praz. A quiet little town, Courchevel Le Praz you will find attractive traditional alpine chalets but does not have the extravagance or glitz as going higher. It won’t take much time to notice here, the main landmark of this village is the ski jumping hill, built-in 1992 for Winter Olympics and is still used today. This is more a real village than a resort-style setting with just over 2000 inhabitants who live year-round. Although you may feel cut out from here, the Bubble will take you to 1850 in 8 mins. With plenty of snow canons available you can ski back to 1300.
La Tania
If you turn right from Le Praz you are on route to La Tania. La Tania was built for the 1992 Winter Olympics, its popularity among many skiers to use as a good base to explore the slopes of higher three valleys areas. La Tania built at 1400 meters, it has timber wood covered buildings. If you are looking to stay in a good mid-budget ski area, La Tania is a good choice for the value of money with friendly locals with picturesque woodland settings. If you are coming to Courchevel driving, you should be conscious that only La Tania and Courchevel Le Praz villages have free parking. In other Ski areas in Courchevel expect to pay around 100 euros for weekly parking in the other resorts.
Courchevel 1550 & 1650
If you continue with the road from La Praz you will arrive at Courchevel 1550. Courchevel 1550, AKA Courchevel village, is a quiet backwater with a mixture of charming chalets and bigger ugly block-like apartment buildings structures. If you wish to discover the world-class ski runs on a lower budget—and avoid the prestigious ski resort in the world, Courchevel 1850, AKA Courchevel, then Courchevel 1550 is an excellent base resort which gives access to the same world-class ski runs where the rich and famous visit. After leaving 1550 towards 1650 you will see on your left huge new indoor water park named Aqua motion. This will tell you that you arrived at Courchevel 1650. Courchevel 1650, aka, Courchevel Moriond set on the main road who pass through town at the centre. There you can find All sorts of shops, restaurants and bars. It has a huge new watersport center called aqua motion (See below for the video clip) Courchevel 1650 also have a great toboggan run, named “Moriond Racing”.
This lively village Courchevel 1650 is popular with the Brits and younger holidaymakers. Don’t expect the après ski scene to be like Meribel, the other three valleys ski resort. If you are looking for an affordable ski holiday with a decent après setting Pretty Courchevel 1650 will not disappoint you, regardless of your age. So, if you are not interested to meet a celebrity or if you are not looking for Louis Vuitton or Prada shops of Courchevel 1850 but searching an incredible ski area with inexpensive Chalet accommodation, then Courchevel 1650 is the right place to be. The difference between Courchevel 1550 & Courchevel 1650 are, Courchevel village (1550) is calm and quieter than 1650 and more expensive than 1650, as they both are to the glamourous and stylish to Courchevel 1850. Ultimately, it narrows down to what is more important, and sadly what you can afford, But a holiday in Courchevel doesn’t have to cost you the earth. One thing that is the same for everyone is the snow and the Mountain, and in Courchevel, everyone has access to the same terrain and stunning surroundings, and if you want luxury and glitz to go with that then you certainly don’t have to look far.

Courchevel 1850
The highest village (and the biggest), is the jewel of the crown of ski resorts, maybe to all of them. Courchevel 1850, AKA Courchevel, is the most prestigious ski resort in the world. Courchevel is the most upmarket of the three resorts in the Trois Vallees, Located Just east of neighboring Meribel, which accesses as a bridge between Courchevel and Val Thorens.
Courchevel 1850 has some very chic chalets, shops, and Restaurants – it has more Michelin star restaurants than any other ski resort in the world. This is where the Beckhams come for their ski holidays, and where Russian millionaires come. Here’s where you find the Rich and famous of Hollywood & football stars and Russian Oligarchs have made their playground – of course, some Brits too. So, if you are in the mood show off, you start with a Rolls Royce airport transfer or just walk down the streets and you will find all high street shops in the world here.
The ski resort has its own airline company and Airport. It is Built on an upward-slope, available for landing only by private small jet aircraft or helicopters. The only ski resort in Europe with a jet’s airport runway. Courchevel 1850 is also well known for its luxury Ski chalets and posh accommodation options (upmarket place).
