These two joint ski resort area of Val d’Isère and Tignes in the Tarentaise Valley forms the Espace Killy, it is named after the three-time Olympic winner Jean-Claude Killy whose home town was Val d’Isère. Espace Killy is the third largest ski area in France, and it links the two famous ski resorts of Tignes and Val d’Isère. Val d’Isère & Tignes, are not part of three valleys ski areas.
History shows Val-d’Isere was shared between three countries, Italy, France, and Switzerland. The Savoy family (Casa Savoia) is a royal reign that was well-known in 1003 in the historical Savoy region. It includes the area of the Western Alps between Lake Geneva in the north and Dauphiné in the south. Duchy of Savoy ruled this part for nearly 450 years from 1416 after The house of savoy who ruled up until then the County of Savoy to 1416. You can still see their mark when you visit these areas, Palaces, Gardens and architecture can be found if you visiting these areas, and in the summer it’s pretty and crowded too. The history here has influence from the Roman era, the parish church here is a milestone to celebrate its parish rights received in 1637, the church however was built in 1664.
