How to get to Verbier?

Located in the canton of the Valais, in the southwest of Switzerland, Verbier is bordered by France to the west and Italy to the south. It’s 160 km from Geneva International Airport and transfers to Verbier take about 2 hours by road or 3 hours by train

How to get around Verbier?

Once you are in Verbier, it is good to know how to get around. If you booked your ski chalets with transfers and transports then you fewer worries. However, for those independent chalet bookings who want some freedom to explore around without having to be tied to any commitments, We have a small guide to help you out.

Bus Service

Verbier has a free bus service that runs from Carrefour all the way down to Verbier village.  Buses run every 5-10 minutes from 08:00 am – 6.00 pm. All lines run through the supermarket stop, Ermitage car park in Place Centrale, Medran lift station and Savoleyres lift station, so if you need to get to any lift station, it doesn’t matter which one you get on.

• Line 1 takes you to to Carrefour
• Line 2 takes you to Hameau (les esserts)
• Line 3 takes you to Patier and Verbier Village

Operates from 07:00 – 19:30.

Skiing

You can reach all towns in the 4 Valleés when you are on your skis or snowboard including Thyon, Nendaz and La Tzoumaz. Take a look at the piste maps to navigate your way around.

Getting to La Tzoumaz

If you need to get to La Tzoumaz and you do not have a car or it is in the evening, you will need to get the lift down to Le Chable and grab the St Bernard Express train to Martigny. You then get on the train towards Brig which is normally Platform 2 and then get off at Riddes. You then walk to the Riddes TRI station to get the Lift to Isérables Téléphérique. From there you get on a bus to the town centre of La Tzoumaz. Take a look at the Swiss train network timetables to help plan your day.

Resort brief

Verbier is the best-known resorts of the four valleys (Les 4 Vallées) which allows you to explore Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, La Tzoumaz, and Thyon including Siviez, Maynes de L’Ours, Les Collons and Les Masses Ski area with 412 km of piste and 89 lifts. The Verbier ski area itself has 100 km of piste runs, with 3 green, 35 blues, 39 reds, and 14 blacks.  The Ski area is divided into 5 units, each has its own advantages. Verbier is linked to 5 smaller Swiss Ski resorts: Veysonnaz, Bruson, Thyon, Nendaz and La Tzoumaz. La Tzoumaz & Savoleyres ski area are Popular with beginners and families.

Slopes

Savoleyres is a bigger sector which sits on the South facing slopes directly above the town of Verbier. Its easily reached by Savoleyres bubble, which runs form westerns end of town and from here you can ski the Sun-drenched slopes on one side or the more North facing slopes down to La Tzoumaz. Blue runs on the North facing slopes are some of the easier runs, and maybe ideal on the first day to help you find your now legs again. The South facing runs connects back to Verbier town or can be used to access the main body of the Ski area.

Although, it is possible to Ski from Savoleyres to the rest of Verbier Ski area it’s quicker to take bus or walk to the medran lift which runs from the top of the centre of town. Once upon the hill, you can explore the Lac des Vaux, although there aren’t many runs here and a little somewhat dislocated from the rest of piste, it is a pleasant area with few runs for intermediates and allows access to the Vallon D’Arbi (Vallon d’Arby) and Col des mines, Two Popular off-piste Itineraries. On the other side of the Ski area is La Chaux (The terrain park here has red, blue and black runs), Like du Fou, this is a self-contained area with a piste, some of which has steep sections but those who like to build up a bit of speed will love. There are more Off-piste routes available from here as well as Verbier’s Freestyle parks, the site of the international competitions ‘’VERBIER RIDE’’.

The Top of the Verbier Sector is Mont Gele, the bubble runs skiers and Snowboarders to the Peak, in just a few minutes, and from here Views are incredible. This is not a Suitable area for anything less than strong skiers and Snowboarders, as there no groomed runs from the top of Mont Gele, Just off-piste routes and Itineraries.

Bruson ski area is for off-piste fun! Mont Fort marks the highest point in the 4 Valleys ski area (This includes access to Mont Fort glacier) at 3,330 metres, without a doubt, the largest range of easily reachable advanced/expert terrain of any ski resort in the Alps.

The main body of the Verbier area is the Attle las – Les Ruinnettas Sector, like the rest of Verbier, Piste here are quite steep, but they wide and that well maintained, although there is winding blue here that snakes from top of the Médran back to town, it is been created as an access route, the lie of the mountains is much steeper and more challenging. The Lower section of the Piste that leads back to town are lined with trees and offers some protection when the weather closes in and the visibility becomes limited.  The Lower section of the piste is “Jardin de Neige”. The only Green run in Verbier is a fairly flat area perfect area for Beginners and small children, sunny and Gentle, and Easily reached from town meaning there is no long journey for ski schools for kids. With Just 3 Green piste, and at its easiest some quite challenging blues, Verbier is not an ideal resort for novices or the faint of heart, it is telling that there is lift here that does not lead to any piste, this is a ski area for those who wish Off-piste skiing and snowboarding, fast challenging reds and blacks, Heaven for intermediate to advanced snow lovers.

Some other well-known terrains names to explore around Attelas – Creblet, Rock and Roll, The Banana Couloir, Backside Mont Fort – Perhaps the most splendid off-piste itinerary in the 4-Valleys, Gentianes – Tortin – Possibly the easiest off-piste to reach in the entire 4-Valleys, not to miss is the ‘’Stairway to Heaven’’ Excellent classic off-piste itinerary for off-piste fan and then with access to the 3330m Mont-Fort glacier, for one of the best off-piste descents on the earth.

After a fresh snowfall, it is one of the best resorts in Europe for those who love off-piste, as it is easy to reach steep and open powder fields from the lifts. It is very important to remember Verbier is just one resort in the massive Four valleys, an area you can spend a lifetime exploring….

Ski seasons: What is the best time to ski in Verbier? 

Verbier’s ski season runs from the end of November to early May, if you looking for a snow-sure month, then beginning of March is the best time to travel. Verbier gets very cold in January, and fairly quiet, Verbier is busier in February half term. It gets warmer through February and March, with April as the sunniest month. If you are looking for a quieter ski experience best avoid dates outside the Easter school holidays. There is good snowfall during the ski season, with regular snowfall highest in March, so this is a great place to come if you want to ski in the spring sunshine.

Verbier is a real party town, and when the sun sets, the town starts to buzz with life. Verbier’s après is focused on a fairly small number of places. Les Ruinettes is a famous spot to go to. Remember in Verbier drinks don’t come cheap. Hotel Farinet and Pub Mont Fort are always lively in the early evenings. Towards the dark, there are many other places to enjoy the night out. What is a Fully serviced or catered chalet? And how does it work?

Catered luxury ski chalets are a great choice for those who wish to spend less time in the kitchen and more time on the slopes.

In Verbier, Catered can mean either part of your meals or all your meals is included catered price. However, you should not have this confused with some chalets that say Accommodation only or included Breakfast. It’s Wise to check this at the time of enquiry or prior to your booking.
