Ski Resorts in Portes du Soleil Ski Area

Portes du Soleil is is a huge ski sports destination in the Alps and in the world, encompassing 13 resorts between Mont Blanc in France and Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Located with just 90 minutes drive from Geneva, getting a plane from London to Switzerland and hitting the slopes for the weekend seems an appealing ski break. However, the Portes du Soleil ski area is large, so you should be able to pick the right option to match your level.

Some main resorts belonging to Les Portes du Soleil are Avoriaz, Morzine, Chatel, Les Gets, Morgins, Les Crosets and Champery.

Avoriaz ski resort

A car-free resort in France with horse-drawn carriages is ideal for families with kids who are environmentally conscious.  If you are looking for a snow-sure destination in France with Ski-in/Ski-out facilities. Avoriaz is just the place be. At its altitude 1800m, Avoriaz is by far the best snow-sure of the ski areas within the Portes du Soleil ski resort. Avoriaz is among the worlds largest purpose-built ski destinations. The Resort is suited for both skiers and Non-skiers with a range of activities to engage in. Runs; 28 Green runs, 104 Blue runs, 112 Red runs and 34 Black runs, Total Piste 650km.

Morzine ski resort

Morzine is the biggest town in the Portes du Soleil area. It is a traditional market village that has a gentle pace of life, with authentic Savoyard charm. With plenty of accommodation options, Morzine will not disappoint many holidaymakers. Morzine offers mainly easy to medium skiing; easily accessible nursery slopes for beginners are wide. It is another popular ski destination in France for families with children. This charming picturesque Savoyard alpine village is great for skiing for kids.

Les Gets

Les Gets is positioned on the col between Taninges and Morzine, at the western edge of the Portes du Soleil ski area. Les Gets or, shall we say let’s get to Les Get if we are a family?!… Its reputation for families cannot be overlooked: the village and the ski area are exceedingly family-friendly. It’s the little extras that make Les Gets a wonderful place for a family ski vacation. Les Gets is a great weekend Ski destination, with just 50km from Geneva.

The chocolate shop, the Mini train at the resort and museum and the non-skier friendly activities makes any family visit without having to hesitate. There is non-ski care for children aged from 6 months to 4 years or another care which does from ages 4-12 years. The ski schools also will look after the young skiers and teach first ski and fun lessons in a special protected and separate area on the slopes from age three. Les Gets is one of the very few Ski resorts to have a ski school just for children. There are plenty of restaurants ranging from the family-friendly and well-priced to fairly high-end. Ski resort mostly specialises in local Savoyard cuisine.

Chatel

Châtel is a village bordering Switzerland: the village stretches from Lac de Vonnes down to the centre. You will find two main ski areas in the village: Super Châtel, which links by a lift a Torgon and Morgins. The resort is also part of the vast Portes du Soleil domain – the largest international linked ski area in the world with over 650 km of varied terrain.

Champery

Champery is a village in Switzerland located at an altitude of approximately 1050 meters, snuggled at the base of the Dents du Midi and the Dents Blanches.
